The Chicago Bears’ quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has taken a lot of blame for his team’s 4-5 start this season. Blaming Trubisky is the easy thing to do, but it’s not all his fault.

After Sunday’s 20-13 win against Detroit, Matt Nagy has shown that he might be the problem. Nagy’s play-calling has derailed the progression of Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears. Instead of helping his quarterback, Nagy has made things tougher on Trubisky. The third-year quarterback isn’t just battling defenses, he is battling his own coach.

Trubisky went 16-for-23 for 173 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. His team hasn’t been fair towards him all season. With every Trubisky overthrow, there are two plays where the receiver needed to make the play. That’s something the sports media leaves out.

Nagy called a decent third quarter where Trubisky shined. He threw two touchdowns in the third quarter and started to use his legs to move around in the pocket. There were flashes of 2018 Trubisky in this game, which keeps me believing in him.

Trubisky doesn’t call the plays, Nagy does. He hasn’t been able to throw the ball down the field consistently. The reasoning behind that could be the lack of running the football. If a defense knows what you’re doing, it won’t work. Once David Montgomery started to run the ball well, Trubisky has gotten better. A less predictable offense helps the quarterback.

Trubisky threw the ball 23 times Sunday. He had passes dropped and blocked at the line. He didn’t miss many throws when he actually threw the ball. He used his legs to move around in the pocket and looked a lot more comfortable. When Nagy takes the “hand-cuffs” off of Trubisky, good things happen. The problem is, Nagy is too stubborn to help out his quarterback. The play-calling has shown that.

Matt Nagy needs to change things up. He has to help Trubisky out with plays that involve a moving pocket. Tarik Cohen should be taking swing passes, no handoffs. Trubisky and Montgomery should be running the read option and more run-pass-option plays. It would be interesting to see Mark Helfrich calling plays. It would help people see if it’s Nagy’s play-calling or Trubisky’s play.

The fact is, Nagy is ruining Trubisky in my opinion. If Nagy is such a great coach, he would run plays that show Trubisky’s strengths as a quarterback. After Sunday’s game, there should still a belief in Trubisky. The problem is his time is running thin and a lot of fans have given up on him.

Next. Bears: Matt Nagy needs to stop calling plays. dark

I would like to see what Trubisky would do without Nagy’s play-calling. Chances are Nagy won’t give up on his poor play-calling and things will get worse. Let’s just hope Trubisky can string together a few decent games and get his confidence back. The season isn’t over yet. We still have a reason to believe in this team.
