Bears: Cam Newton is surprisingly open to coming to Chicago
The Chicago Bears may need quarterback help this coming offseason. A big name could be of service.
The future of the Chicago Bears quarterback situation is as uncertain as ever. Mitchell Trubisky took some major steps back in 2019, they don’t have a first-round pick, and Chase Daniel isn’t the answer either. They are going to look to the draft, free agency, and trades to try and help themselves as soon as this offseason.
Cam Newton might be made available as the Carolina Panthers seem ready to move on from him. He was the number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and he has lived up to all that hype. He has been the NFL’s league MVP, a 3-time pro bowler, and had an appearance in Super Bowl 50. He is going into the final season of his contract next year, so plenty of people believe that he is going to be in a different uniform in 2020. The fact that Kyle Allen has played so well in Newton’s place makes that idea easy to see.
Newton is currently on injured reserve and is going to miss the rest of the 2019 season with a foot injury that he might need surgery for. It has come out that he would be open to playing for Chicago in 2020. He would be a trade-friendly player for the Bears, should the team be open to cutting ties with a couple of other current contracts. If Newton was open to it, both parties might be really smart to consider the opportunity.
There are plenty of people that believe that that the Bears are a Super Bowl contending roster as long as they get good play from their quarterback. The position has held them back in 2019 and it might be too late this season. They cannot let that happen again in 2020 and Newton might be able to elevate them to new heights. They wouldn’t even really need him to be his old MVP self, they would just need him to be much better than Trubisky has been.
With Newton being open to the idea of playing for the Bears and the need at the position being so obvious for Chicago, it seems like a match made in heaven. We obviously have to see where it goes for the Bears in the rest of the 2019 season, but a big change might be made for the organization real soon.
