Bears: Assessing needs to address in 2020 offseason
By Usayd Koshul
3. Inside Linebacker
This is one of those positions that seems to be up in air right now. The Bears have Roquan Smith under contract until the end of the 2021 season while Danny Trevathan is under contract until the end of the 2019 season. What this means is that inside linebacker is a position where if the Bears are able to sign Trevathan to another contract extension before he hits free agency in the spring, this is a position that won’t need to be addressed until 2023 at best.
However, in the scenario that the Bears cannot afford to re-sign Trevathan, the draft will be the place where the Bears will need to draft his replacement. However, it’ll need to be in the second-round considering the fact that top-tier targets such as Dylan Moses (Alabama) and Kenneth Murray (Oklahoma).
Between Murray and Moses, both have unique skillsets that can help the Bears tremendously. Moses has tremendous upside and brings a physical mindset to the position while Murray is all about speed and playing with a high motor.
Between the two, Moses likely gets the nod due to his upside and the physicality that he brings to the position, however, Moses is currently recovering from a torn ACL that could see him slip into the second round of the draft, which means he’d make an excellent replacement if the Bears cannot bring back Trevathan.
