The Chicago Bears head coach needs to be careful or he risks losing the locker room.

If someone told you at the end of last season that just nine weeks into this season, a large contingent of the Chicago Bears fan base would be calling for his job, you’d have told that person they were out of their mind.

Yet here we are. Not only are fans calling for Nagy’s head, but they are also begging for a change at the quarterback position and throwing in Ryan Pace for good measure. To say the fanbase is fed up would be an understatement.

Just when it feels like the Bears might have a roster to enjoy sustained success, they lay an egg after an incredibly promising season. More of the same from this storied franchise which has become more horror story as of late.

And if the fans are this tired of the team’s performance, just think how the players on the team must feel. Now granted, they are the ones directly responsible for the team’s output on the field, but let’s be clear — the giant elephant in the room is Mitchell Trubisky.

Fans can debate what or who is the most to blame for the team’s woes, but it’s undeniable that Trubisky is a huge problem. In seven games he’s thrown just 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, with a pathetic 5.6 yards per pass attempt. In his last two games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, two of the worst secondaries statistically, he threw for a total of 378 yards and 1 interception completing only 59 percent of his passes (I rounded up).

Despite his immense struggles, head coach Matt Nagy is sticking with Trubisky. Now I have no idea whether that’s truly his decision or a directive from the top, but whatever the reason, the decision itself could quickly come back to bite him.

You see credibility is a lot like losing weight. Losing weight and building up credibility both take a lot of time to accomplish. However, just as you can gain the weight back seemingly overnight, so too can one lose their credibility.

Continuing to trot Trubisky out there when he’s shown nothing to indicate he can even resemble a competent quarterback, could cause a division amongst the team. The defense, by and large, has played pretty well this year, but it’s become apparent that their body language on the field is that of a unit who knows the offense is incapable of carrying its weight.

Next. It's time for Shaheen to go. dark

At some point, the public support for Trubisky could quickly become private dissension which almost always leads to turmoil. The season is already lost. If Nagy doesn’t want to lose the locker room too, he may need to make a move at the quarterback position.
