The Chicago Bears lost 22-14 Sunday against the Eagles. That is their fourth straight loss in a row. At 3-5 the Bears have to turn things around fast if they want to save their season.

After eight games, the Chicago Bears are 3-5 with one of the worst offenses in football. A lot of people have blamed Mitchell Trubisky for the poor play on offense but the problem might run deeper than Trubisky. The problem could be Matt Nagy.

After today, fans all around Chicago are ready to wrap a bow on the 2019 season. The air-chair general managers out there are already scouting the next quarterback to take Trubisky’s job. That is a fine assessment after such a disappointing eight games. There just are a few things to look at after today’s game.

After the first half, Trubisky and the offense had only nine yards on offense. That isn’t a misprint, they had nine yards. There were a lot of fans on social media calling for Chase Daniel to start off the second half.

After falling down 19-0, the Bears offense started to get things going. Trubisky had a few great throws down the field on two different drives that ended in a David Montgomery touchdown. He started to show flashes of being a good quarterback in the second half.

Nagy was aggressive with Trubisky during the third quarter and the offense started to look like the 2018 Chicago Bears. For some reason, Nagy stopped calling an aggressive game and for lack of better terms got “too cute” with his play calls.

The Bears aren’t a cute team, the city of Chicago doesn’t want cute football. We want Montgomery to run the ball down the throats of defenses and Trubisky to be solid. This is a bold take but I’m starting to think Nagy is holding back this offense, not Trubisky.

I will agree that there’s a huge problem between Nagy and Trubisky. Something happened during the offseason between the two that sparked terrible play. I’m not there every day at Halas Hall, I don’t know what happens there.

It’s time for Nagy to hand the play sheet over to either Mark Helfrich or Dave Ragone. I don’t like either coach at their positions but they have to take a shot. If there is an issue between Trubisky and Nagy, a third-party calling plays could delay tensions between the two.

Nagy has become a toxic play-caller. Tarik Cohen isn’t a guy to give the ball two inside the 10. Throwing screens on second and 10 isn’t the move either. These last few games have led me to believe it’s more Nagy than Trubisky.

If Nagy doesn’t “trust” Trubisky to run the offense, call plays as you do trust him. If you call that benefit Trubisky’s strengths instead of his weaknesses. That is why Helfrich or Ragone calling plays would help the offense. It gives them a clean slate to jump-start the offense.

Next. Bears can draw inspiration from Nationals. dark

The fact that a 12-4 football team from last year fell this far is disappointing and falls on the coaches. Nagy is holding back the offense with his play-calling more than Trubisky is. The experts are calling Nagy a genius and blame Trubisky. If he is such a genius, call plays that benefit the offense instead of hurting them.
