The Chicago Blackhawks needed to end their streak of bad hockey against the Anaheim Ducks and they were able to get the much-needed win.

The Chicago Blackhawks were in a slump of really bad games. They had a couple of losses in a row and they were the types of losses where the team looked like complete garbage. They were continually being outshot and losing games that weren’t even really close. They managed to get a point against the Los Angeles Kings but they didn’t really deserve it. They knew they needed to play well against the Anaheim Ducks and they did.

The highlight of the game is the fact that Adam Boqvist scored his first career NHL goal in his second career game. The young defenseman has shown that he is comfortable with the puck on his stick at the NHL level and he proved it by roofing home his first to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. This kid is going to be a big part of the team in the long term and it is good to see him hit the ground running in the NHL.

Boqvist still needs work in his own end but that might always be the weakest part of his game. He is going to wow you with some offensive skills in the meantime, however. Boqvist making his NHL debut was a major story going into Los Angeles and he played well in certain areas, including his first career goal. The good play needs to keep up to warrant him staying in the lineup for the majority of the season. He was just starting to do well in Rockford right before getting called up so maybe he is ready to stay.

The two teams found themselves tied after the third period was over and the Blackhawks earned a point for the second straight game. The only thing is this time Jonathan Toews made a sweet feed to Patrick Kane who made no mistake and won the game for Chicago. They were almost even with the Ducks in shots as Anaheim had 38 and Chicago had 37. That is a vast improvement over the level of play from the previous few games.

The Blackhawks are going to try and repeat their effort from this game on Tuesday night when they head up to northern California to take on the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks are off to a cold start by their standards but the Blackhawks are going to need to have a solid game in order to win. This game against the Anaheim Ducks was definitely a step in the right direction.
