Bears: How fans should feel about Mitchell Trubisky
By Ryan Heckman
Mitchell Trubisky has severely underwhelmed as the Chicago Bears starting quarterback in 2019.
With that said, how should fans be reacting? Surely, as a Chicago Bears fan myself, I know that the answer to that question is a broad one. Depending on what kind of fan you are, how loyal you consider yourself and your general outlook towards your team, the possible answers are endless.
Look, the Bears sit at 3-4 after seven games. That is a far cry from where most fans thought they would be at this point. Personally, I thought they would be right around 5-2. I think most would agree that five wins in their first seven games would have been a reasonable prediction.
Instead, we’ve seen this team underperform just about every week. Whether it be barely sneaking past an awful Denver Broncos team, getting downright embarrassed overseas in a loss to the Oakland Raiders, or most recently coming up short against a banged up, underachieving Los Angeles Chargers team — the Bears are not who we thought they were.
So, what gives?
A lot of the blame can be pointed all over the place. At the top, it is head coach Matt Nagy who should shoulder most of the finger pointing. After all, the offense has seen its fair share of blunders when it comes to pure play calling. You don’t get that many chances inside the 5-yard line against the Chargers and not come up with multiple touchdowns — period.
But, that’s a story for later.
The big topic has been the play of third-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Whether you like the guy or not shouldn’t be at the forefront of your opinion. Whether you thought he was the right or wrong pick at no. 2 back in 2017 doesn’t matter.
What does matter? I’ll tell you exactly what matters, and how you should approach your view of Trubisky, in three simple steps.
