The Chicago Blackhawks were on a downward spiral after a few horrible games in a row but two key players led them to a win against the LA Kings.

The Chicago Blackhawks had a stretch of horrible games continue on Saturday afternoon when the Carolina Hurricanes destroyed them 4-0. It was a game that left the Blackhawks in a bad way as their strength of scoring goals was gone and their weakness of defending was still there in full force. It was a terrible showing and one that left them feeling like they needed to change something. They knew they needed to take care of a lowly Los Angeles Kings team in any way they can.

The Kings and Blackhawks met in Chicago for the Hawks’ last home game before a four-game road trip that will see them play against some pretty good teams and do a lot of traveling. That means this game was huge for them as they really need to bank some points at home. Especially against a team like the Kings, who are on paper a much worse team than the Blackhawks.

They did just that in this one. They buried the Kings by a final score of 5-1 after putting together a full team effort and received some good goaltending from Robin Lehner. Lehner made 38 saves on 39 shots. There was a lot of perimeter play but Lehner was able to make the necessary saves and gave the Blackhawks a great chance to win, which they did. This was a game that saw Brent Seabrook be a healthy scratch for the second time in his career, which was hard to see but it may have been time.

The biggest reason for the win, however, was the play of Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome. They have gotten off to a slow start so far this season and it led to them being separated. Now, they were put back together and separating them now looks like a terrible decision. These two are amazing together and clearly have outstanding chemistry. Strome added two goals and one assist and DeBrincat added one goal and two assists, all one the same three goals.

These two need to produce offense in order for the Blackhawks to have success. They lead the charge as far as depth scoring if you consider the duo of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews as primary scoring. They allow those two to play together and hopefully, they are the next duo to really get things going. It isn’t going to be a perfect season for the Blackhawks but if they continue to control play to score some goals and get good goaltending, they should win a good amount of games this year.

A chance to put a winning streak together comes on Tuesday night when they visit the Nashville Predators. They are one of the best teams in the National Hockey League once again so it will be a great test for the Blackhawks. This game should feature some a display of skill and goaltending as both of these teams can certainly provide that.
