Jacob Eason

If you didn’t like the lack of big-time arm in our first prospect, you’re likely going to love Jacob Eason, the next player on our list. Not only does he have a big-time arm, but he may have the strongest arm in this draft class.

You may recall that Eason used to be the starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs before losing his starting spot to Jake Fromm (another top quarterback prospect in this draft). Part of the reason he lost his spot as the starter was his inability to take the talent, which he has in droves, and marry it with great decision making on the field. At least in that regard, he sounds a little like Jay Cutler.

However, Eason has looked much more polished this year at the University of Washington and is putting together a very nice season. He’s completing just over 67 percent of his passes, with 9.3 adjusted passing yards per attempt. And if you throw out his clunker against Standford (which seems to be an outlier) he’s completed 72 percent of his passes. He’s also cutting down on mistakes, throwing only three interceptions in eight games while tossing 16 touchdowns.

The question will be whether he can perform at this level consistently. If he can, he could vault outside the Bears reach. If not, or if questions persist, he might be around in the latter part of the first round or even early second, and the Bears can pounce.
