Chicago Blackhawks vs. Golden Knights: Kirby Dach’s first NHL goal
The Chicago Blackhawks made the third overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and Kirby Dach is now a big part of their future and he scored a goal.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Kirby Dach was the third overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and he played in his second career game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night. He scored his first career NHL goal in this one and it put the Blackhawks ahead 1-0. It was a deflection into the net off Dach but he will take it as he is finally on the board in the National Hockey League.
The Blackhawks got outstanding goaltending from Robin Lehner and Vegas matched it with the play by Marc-Andre Fleury. Dach’s goal stood as the only goal in the game until Vegas pulled Fleury and scored with the extra attacker. Mark Stone made a fantastic pass to Nick Holden who buried it and forced overtime.
Each team traded chances in the overtime until Jonathan Toews took a penalty. Vegas used four forwards on their 4 on 3 power play but were unable to end it, but ultimately won the game in the shootout. It was a great game for both goalies, and of course, Dach who had his first career goal. It was a loss, but it is a game that Blackhawks fans will remember forever if Kirby Dach lives up to his draft selection and is a part of the core for a long time.
Normally, the Blackhawks score a lot and can’t defend but it was the pure opposite in this one. They kept the elite forward group of Vegas from burning them until the final moments but they couldn’t get more than the one goal. Hopefully, it is a sign of things to come for the way they defend, but they need to score some goals. The best teams play to their strengths and the Blackhawks strength is scoring. Defending is the most important thing though so if they can find the right balance they will start to string together some wins.
The Blackhawks are still winless against Vegas in their all-time matchup so hopefully, they can figure that out sometime this season. The Blackhawks are back at it in a rematch of their Global Series matchup with the Philadephia Flyers. The Blackhawks were bad in Prague when they played them and they are going to be looking to right the ship on that one. This should be a game that the Blackhawks are motivated to win, especially after falling against Vegas after playing a really solid game until the very end.
