Chicago Bears: 5 splash trades to explore at quarterback
By Ryan Heckman
Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans
This one would have to be on the cheap, people.
There was once a time where Marcus Mariota was reeling off 3-touchdown performances on the regular. But that stretch seems so, so far gone at this point. He is a former no. 1 overall pick for a reason, though. He had a lot to like about his game and, since being injured a couple of years back, hasn’t been able to return to that status.
Being somewhat mobile still, though, gives him an advantage. If Matt Nagy decides to start committing to the run, that would benefit Mariota greatly. He’s been victim of poor schemes in the past, which Nagy should be able to fix — assuming Nagy does indeed return to his offensive ingenuity.
Many people had a hunch that once the Titans signed Ryan Tannehill, Mariota’s days may have been numbered as the starter. Sure enough, Mariota was benched in favor of Tannehill and he’s now a backup.
If the Bears entertained bringing in Mariota, I would like to think the only way it would happen was if the Titans accepted a sixth-round pick. If not, it’d be a hard pass.
