Chicago Bears: 5 splash trades to explore at quarterback
By Ryan Heckman
Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars
(Or another Jacksonville quarterback)
What a story. Nick Foles goes down and the Jaguars suddenly see rookie sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew blossom before their very eyes.
He hasn’t been perfect by any means, but my goodness has MInshew dropped some dimes in his short career. The rookie out of Washington State has thrown for 1,697 yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions in his seven games (six starts) this year.
Here’s the thing, though: Foles just began a 4-year, $88 million contract. He is the guy — he has to be the guy.
In addition, the Jaguars already traded a fifth-round pick for Joshua Dobbs immediately after Foles’ injury. They never thought Minshew would be this good, this fast. If the Jaguars held onto Minshew, would the Bears consider trading for Dobbs?
If I were Ryan Pace, I’d give up a fourth-round pick for Minshew in a heartbeat. For Dobbs, on the other hand, I would likely only offer up a sixth-rounder — which Jacksonville should reject, considering they dealt a fifth-rounder for him in the first place.
