Chicago Bears: Three standout players in loss to Saints
Standout #3: WR Cordarrelle Patterson
I had to throw a bit of positivity into this gloomy article, and there was one good Bears performance to include. Up until Trubisky decided to move the ball during garbage time, most of the Bears scoring came from wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.
Patterson was signed as a free agent during the offseason and brought in as a depth receiver and the team’s primary kick returner. Patterson showed exactly why the Bears signed him with an electrifying 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

At the time, it made the score 9-7 in favor of the Saints and put the Bears right back into the game. Obviously, the team fell apart after this but it was an encouraging score after a bad start to the game.
Patterson has been used as both a running back and wideout this season. It’s tough to get him the ball because defenses will usually focus on him when he comes onto the field on offense. Still, Nagy needs to try and find a way to get him more touches.
Not being sarcastic here, but Patterson also had to act as a cornerback late in the game when he saved Trubisky from an interception on 3rd and goal. He batted the ball away from a Saints defender, and Trubisky threw a meaningless touchdown on the next play.
Hopefully, Patterson can build on this strong game and continue to be a threat on offense and as a kick returner. The Bears haven’t had a dynamic return man in several years, so it’s a nice addition.
No matter the silver lining of this game, the Bears must improve next week to keep pace with the rest of the division. It’s do-or-die for this team now.
