5. OG Brandon Fusco

Let’s get one thing straight here. The biggest problem on the Bears offensive line this year has been the play of right guard Kyle Long who’s regressed to the point where the Bears should consider benching him. To replace him, the Bears have three options: Start Ted Larsen or Rashard Coward or end up signing Brandon Fusco, a veteran who’s missed just three games since entering the NFL in 2011.

There are multiple reasons that Fusco would make sense. Throughout his career, he’s been consistently able to prove that he can be durable whereas Long has started just 21 games from 2017 until 2019.

Fusco also has a lot of experience playing at right guard and is one of the most disciplined players in the NFL. In 2018, despite playing in just seven games, Fusco had just two penalties total proving that he can be a disciplined player and not hold an offense back.

Even if the Bears don’t think that Fusco could make a viable replacement for Long, they should still consider bringing him in for a workout as it would give them an opportunity to see if he’s worth signing in as a free agent in the 2020 offseason as a free agent considering the Bears are likely set to move on from Long after the 2019 season due to financial reasons.

If the Bears want to fix their offensive line and get any sort of offense going then a change is likely needed at right guard. Whether it’s Fusco or someone that’s already with the team the Bears have a handful of options when it comes to potentially replacing Long and a veteran like Fusco could be the best-case scenario for the Bears.
