Chicago Bears: 5 in-season free agents to sign

2. TE Jermaine Gresham
A second veteran tight end free agent that is available for the Bears to look into signing is Jermaine Gresham who’s after having spent nine years between two NFL teams, was released by the Arizona Cardinals at end of the 2018 season.
A first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010, Gresham has never been a flashy player by any means but he does provide a quarterback with an option in the passing game that can be effective against zone coverage. Gresham has shown the ability to be both durable and reliable as a receiver.
He’s started 118 games and has averaged 10 yards per reception. The key thing to understand about Gresham is that he’s never really been a threat to score on any given play but he’s got just 29 touchdowns in his career and can also be an effective blocker if asked to contribute in the running game.
Were the Bears to bring Gresham in, he’d immediately compete with someone like Adam Shaheen to be the Bears second-string tight end. Additionally, Gresham is just 31 years old meaning that he at least has a little of juice left in the tank to be a situational player for any NFL team.
