Five games into 2019 and it’s clear that the Bears haven’t gotten the production they’ve needed at the tight end position from guys like Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen. However, luckily for the Bears, the 29-year old veteran Dwayne Allen is still available and at a cheap cost too.

The biggest advantage that Allen provides over any of the tight ends that are currently on the Bears roster is experience in terms of starting games. Since entering the NFL in 2012, Allen has started 72 games proving that he’s been healthy for the most part.

Throughout his career, Allen has averaged 11.3 yards per reception. He’s not the kind of tight end that will be a quarterback’s favorite target by any means but he has shown enough to be a guy that can catch a few passes each game and be an asset during certain situations on Sundays.

If the Bears do decide to sign Allen, they’d likely only offer him a one-year that is worth three or four million dollars maximum. Essentially, this would be a deal that would run through 2019 and then the Bears could reconsider bringing him back as a valuable depth piece depending on how Allen performs.
