Chicago Bears: 5 in-season free agents to sign
By Usayd Koshul
While the Chicago Bears 2019 season hasn’t gone as planned, what are five free agents the Bears should consider signing?
After five games, the Chicago Bears find themselves with more questions than answers. While the roster is still one of the most complete in the NFL, there always one position or a few positions that could improve.
With the NFL calendar now having turned to October, it’s the time of year where contenders and pretenders begin to separate themselves. The contenders not only have their sights set on winning games down the stretch but also figuring out ways to potentially improve their roster. The pretenders on the other hand, have likely started to look ahead to the 2020 offseason to figure out ways to improve their rosters in order to hopefully compete in the near future.
October is an interesting month considering the fact that the NFL trade deadline is right around the corner and teams that think they can make a run are always willing to add a player they believe could help their team.
While the Bears don’t have the assets to make a big trade, what they can do is bolster specific positions on the roster such as outside linebacker, guard, and tight end by using the NFL’s free agent market.
To be clear, this doesn’t the Bears should totally revamp their roster, it just means that making a late in-season addition via the free agent market is what could help the Bears gear up for the stretch and make a run with the goal of securing one of the NFC’s top playoff seeds.
With that said, what are some free agents that the Bears should consider signing on cheap, one-year deals? We’ll examine why the Bears should sign each of these names and what would each player bring to the Bears?
