Chicago Bears: 5 tight ends to consider in 2020
By Usayd Koshul
2. Brycen Hopkins, Purdue
An excellent route runner that thrives in space, Brycen Hopkins is another interesting name to keep an eye on. In Matt Nagy’s offense, the tight end is expected to be a mismatch weapon on any given play and Hopkins presents just that.
In 2019, Hopkins has proven that he can be the type of guy that’s going to be a threat to score any time he touches the ball. In three games, he’s got three touchdowns and has averaged 15.5 yards per reception.
What’s most impressive about Hopkins is that despite having been a regular starter for Purdue since 2016, he continues to see an increase in his workload. In other words, Hopkins has consistently improved over the last few years and proven that he can be a big asset to any offense.
One area where Hopkins needs to improve in his is run blocking. He needs to develop a more aggressive mindset otherwise at the NFL level, bigger and stronger defenders will take advantage of his unwillingness to drive people off the line of scrimmage.
Overall, Hopkins is a guy that has the potential to be an excellent fit in the Bears offense. His size (six-foot-five, 245 pounds) and ability to be an effective route runner make him one of the most polished tight end prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft.
