Chicago Blackhawks: Evaluating the 2019-20 roster
The Chicago Blackhawks released their roster for 2019-20 and it gives plenty of reason to be excited about what is to come.
The Chicago Blackhawks have announced their roster for the 2019-20 season. It was the day that all 31 teams did so, and the Blackhawks have a roster that should be able to compete this year. There aren’t really many surprises as far as cuts are concerned, and the lineup should look similar to what everyone expected. There was a decent amount of turnover this year which should be expected when you miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.
There are the usual stars like Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, and Corey Crawford. This has been the core that has carried this team over the span of the last decade. They also have some extended depth with players like Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Strome, and Erik Gustafsson. There are also some new faces that should excite everyone like Alexander Nylander, Robin Lehner, Dominik Kubalik, and Calvin de Haan.
There are some injuries to talk about as the roster is announced. Connor Murphy (groin) and John Quenneville (right hip) will start the season on the injured reserve. Then there is Kirby Dach (concussion) will begin the season with an injured/non-roster designation. Hopefully, the Blackhawks can help these guys get healthy and contributing to an already good lineup.
Collin Delia was assigned to the Rockford Ice Hogs, leaving Crawford and Lehner as the tandem to begin the season. It is a pretty good trio that the team has in the organization and they may need them all to step up at different times this season. They might be a team that gives up some high-quality chances again this season so the goalies are going to be so important.
The Blackhawks see this as a roster that can compete this season for a playoff spot and perhaps one that can make some noise in the playoffs if they were to make it. There is definitely some excitement around this team and they have the horses who have been there and done that. This isn’t a perfect roster by any means but it is definitely much improved over the one from a year ago. Blackhawks fans should be pretty excited to see this team take the ice.
