Chicago Bears improve to 3-1, but lose big key in the process
By Ryan Fedrau
The Chicago Bears just wrapped up their 3rd win of the 2019 NFL season with a 16-6 win against division rival, Minnesota Vikings. They might have won the game but they lost a key piece in the process.
First off, what an amazing showing off the bench by Chicago Bears backup quarterback Chase Daniel. Daniel came off the bench after Mitchell Trubisky injured his left shoulder during the first drive of the game and threw for 195 yards and one touchdown in the Bears 16-6 win against the Vikings.
The Chicago Bears move to 3-1, the same record they had last year after Week 4, the week where Chicago beat Tampa Bay 48-10 in Mitchell Trubisky’s infamous six passing touchdowns game.
This Bears’ win was important because it not only ties them with Green Bay for first place (Green Bay has the tiebreaker), it shows us that Chase Daniel can win games off the bench when called upon.
Let’s not take credit away from the Oakland Raiders but they’re an easier opponent next week, in a game where the Bears might not have Mitchell Trubisky playing. The Bears being 4-1 going into their Bye Week is beneficial with an injured Mitchell Trubisky needing rest. He could comeback for the Saints game, which is right after their Bye Week, which is giving him two weeks off to rest, but that might be pushing Trubisky’s luck.
Chase Daniel should be able to beat the Raiders next Sunday, and then the Saints without their star quarterback Drew Brees, who is out due to injury, if Mitchell Trubisky doesn’t play in those games. Not to get ahead of myself but the Bears really could be 5-1 going into their next tough game, which is against the Los Angeles Chargers on October 27th at 1 PM EST.
The Bears go on a tough stretch from the Chargers game by facing the Eagles the next week, and then the Rams two weeks later. That is three tough games in 4 weeks, something the Bears having Trubisky healthy would soften the blow and give them a better chance to win.
So yes, today’s win was a great team win with their defense stepping up big time against the Vikings’ tough run game, but losing Mitchell Trubisky on the first drive was the real loss for this game.
The Chicago Bears have a solid defense that should keep them in every game Mitchell Trubisky misses. I still believe they will make the playoffs and thankfully this injury is early enough in the season where he can still make a comeback later during the year, if the injury is serious enough where he would miss an extended amount of time.
Coach Nagy will have a plan and I trust his plan. The team will be fine, just trust the process Bears’ fans, don’t worry about things we cannot control. If Trubisky is out longer than we expect, we have Chase Daniel to root for and support. Losing Trubisky almost negates the win to me but if everyone steps up and does their part, there will be a lot more big team wins like this game, this season.
