The Not So Good

While Trubisky had a much better game, there were still moments where you shook your head in disappointment. Again, what makes his performance so maddening sometimes is that you see what he’s capable of when executing the extraordinary. However, when executing the mundane, he’s often off-target.

One example was with 10:54 left in the first half. The Bears had the ball at the 50-yard line on 2nd and 10. The Redskins jumped offsides giving Mitch and the offense a free play. He had Anthony Miller wide open down the left side and threw it about a foot outside of his reach. Although it did not count as an incompletion due to the penalty, it was a play Mitch has to make and would have been a huge gain for the offense.

The other example came later in that drive with 9:30 left. Mitch dropped and with a clean pocket, despite having plenty of room to step into the throw, threw off his back foot to David Montgomery who was open on a slant. The throw sailed high and once again the Bears were bailed out by a defensive penalty away from the ball.

These are the types of throws that Mitch must cleanup to go from a decent quarterback to an above-average quarterback.
