Chicago Bulls: Best, worse case scenarios for Kris Dunn in 2019-2020
Best Possible Outcome
Kris Dunn actually has two outcomes that could wind up being good for him. First, Dunn could shock everyone and outperform those ahead of him on the projected depth chart to earn the starting spot at point guard. The other way Dunn has a best-case outcome is that the Bulls find a trade partner and ship Dunn to another team that allows him to play more minutes.
Looking at the first, best possible outcome for Dunn, I just do not see this happening. Dunn is entering his fourth season in the NBA. We have seen enough of him to know the type of player that he is and his future looks grim. Dunn deserves to play in the NBA, but he is nothing more than a role player off the bench for most teams.
Now, as a best possible outcome, as I said, Dunn shocks everyone this season. He outperforms both Coby White and Tomas Satoransky. He earns the starting guard position and he actually plays well for the Bulls. He dishes out assists and scores enough points per game to make a difference. If this happens, Dunn will have averaged at least nine assists and 15 points per game.
Honestly, if this outcome happens, the Chicago Bulls and fans should be ecstatic. As I stated, the other best outcome for Kris Dunn would be being traded to another team that can give him more minutes. Now, a best, best case scenario would be he starts out strong, earning the starting point guard position. Then the Bulls net a bigger return by still trading him to another team.
That would be a win for the Bulls, but highly unlikely to happen. Instead, the Bulls would be more likely to trade away Dunn for little to nothing as long as it led to the team positioning themselves better for the future. The problem with trades is finding a trade partner. If the Bulls were able to trade Dunn, it would likely be garbage for garbage or as a two-for-one type deal.
As the season starts, I fully expect Dunn to be the third option at point guard, but we will see how quickly Coby White progresses.
