Chicago Blackhawks: 15 greatest goal scorers in franchise history
Tony Amonte had a long career that spanned over 15 seasons. He spent nine of them with the Blackhawks from the 1993-94 season to the 2001-02 season and was a very good player for all of them.
In 627 games for the ‘Hawks, he scored 273 goals. That is a goal per game total of .43 which is good. He is eighth all time in Blackhawks goals scored, so there is no doubt that he is one of the greatest in team history.
Amonte also added 329 assists for a total of 541 points for them. He never won any personal awards, but he came in second for the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie in 1992 and received Hart Trophy and Lady Byng votes on many occasions.
The Blackhawks acquired Amonte from the New York Rangers in 1994 with seven games left to go in the season. New York went on to win the Stanley Cup that season. It may have hurt, but Amonte gained some steam and became a star when he got to Chicago.
He played in 40 playoff games for Chicago and he had 13 goals. That is a decent number of playoff goals in only 40 games. Amonte was only a part of one Blackhawks team that had a series win, so that is why his playoff numbers aren’t as good as some other elite goal scorers in Blackhawks history.
Not long after his tenure with the ‘Hawks ended, they went into some dark days where they were one of the worst franchises in North American professional sports, but before that, he was a great scorer for Chicago.
