Chicago Blackhawks: 15 greatest goal scorers in franchise history
Doug Wilson is one of the best defensemen in franchise history. He was a member of the team for many great years. He just missed being there for the days where the Blackhawks made it to the Stanley Cup Final in the early 1990s.
His Blackhawks career spanned from 1977 to 1991. A total of 14 Blackhawks seasons before moving on from the ‘Hawks to join the San José Sharks for two years to finish off his career.
Wilson had a knack of scoring goals from the blue line unlike any defenseman in team history. In 939 games for Chicago, he had 225 goals. That is a lot of goals for a defenseman to score even back then. There is a reason that he is the all-time goal-scoring leader among Blackhawks defenseman. He added in 554 assists for a total of 779 points with the Blackhawks.
He was a great player for Chicago and the NHL has recognized it a few different times. He had four separate seasons where he was top five in Norris Trophy voting as the league’s top defenseman, including the 1981-82 season, where he won it. He scored 39 goals from the blue line that season, which was his career-high by far.
Wilson is the only defenseman on this list and he deserves to be there with all the other great forwards that were good at putting the puck in the back of the net for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks made the playoffs in 12 of the 14 seasons he played for Chicago and he had a lot to do with it. His Norris Trophy and three NHL All-Star selections say a lot about how great he was.
