Chicago Blackhawks: 15 greatest goal scorers in franchise history
Steve Larmer is one of those players who spent most of his career with one organization, and then go win the Stanley Cup with a new team over the final years of his career. He was a member of the Blackhawks from 1980 to 1993, a total of 13 seasons. Then, he won the Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994.
Larmer is one of the best goal scorers in team history, as in 891 games played with the Blackhawks, he had 406 goals. That is good for third on the Blackhawks’ all-time goal-scoring list. He also chipped in 517 assists for 923 points.
He was an elite scorer and one of the best players on the team for his entire career. To be third on any team’s all-time goal-scoring list is impressive, but when it is an Original Six franchise that has been around for almost a century, it is even more impressive.
Larmer won the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie in 1983, his first full season with the team. He would go on, obviously, to have an incredible career following that. He is the team’s all-time leader in power-play goals, so the man advantage worked to his advantage as well.
For as many goals and points as he has, it is a little strange that he is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame, but that’s the way it goes. Larmer is one of the best players in team history and the numbers reflect that.
The Blackhawks were a playoff team in 11 of Larmer’s 13 seasons with the team. In 111 playoff games with the team, he had 40 goals. He was never able to help the Blackhawks win the league’s top prize, but it was nice that he got to win it towards the end of his career with the Rangers.
