Chicago Blackhawks: 2019-20 Pacific Division preview
Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights are one of the most exciting teams to talk about in the National Hockey League. They are about to enter their third season of existence and they have been on an incredible run since they joined the league. They had their magical run to the Stanley Cup Final in their first year and then had a run to a first-round game seven loss in year two. They hit the ground running in the NHL and built one of the leagues best farm system. Things are well for Vegas.
They are going to be that great Stanley Cup contender once again in 2019-20. They have something for the whole year that they have never had, a full year of their best player. They acquired Mark Stone from the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline and gave him a contract extension. He is their new best player and that is saying something because they have lots of great players like William Karlsson, Jon Marchessault, Max Pacioretty, Paul Stastny, and Nate Schmidt amongst others.
They have one of the best goalies in the NHL in Marc-Andre Fleury so they are definitely set in the blue paint. They are a well-rounded team that everybody should fear. With a full year of Stone on top of their already elite team, there is no reason to believe that Vegas won’t be a contender once again. They are going to make the playoffs and potentially make a deep run once again. Their only issue is that they play in a division with San Jose, who could give them a tough seven-game series once again.
Vegas’ record of 43-32-7 for 93 standing points seems a little underwhelming for how good they are but they got off to a rough start. Chances are they are going to have a good start which should put them well over 100 points again. The Blackhawks went 0-2-1 for one point against Vegas last year. They appear to be a pain once again so they are going to need to be on their A-game when they meet again.
The Pacific Division is rather top-heavy, but the Blackhawks are going to need to play well against them all because even the lowly ones have a few elite players that can change games. These games are always so much fun to watch so be ready for some Pacific Division hockey!
