Chicago Bears: Three major disappointments in loss to Packers
Disappointment #2: Quarterback Mitch Trubisky
I don’t want to be too negative when it comes to the performance of quarterback Mitch Trubisky, but he definitely could’ve been a lot better in Thursday’s loss.
Fans expected big improvements from Trubisky coming into this season. This game made it look like the young quarterback and the entire Bears offense regressed from last season.
Trubisky continues to look uncomfortable in the pocket. He’s again not making correct reads and overthrowing open receivers. It’s possible to chalk this up to rustiness, but these mistakes are cause for concern.
Don’t get me wrong, Trubisky made some great plays in Thursday’s game. He showed flashes of athleticism and toughness. He broke away from a potential sack and hurled a great pass downfield, only to have the play called back for offensive pass interference.
It was a frustrating night for Trubisky. He could never get into a rhythm and it showed in his play and apparent uneasiness. The scrambling ability wasn’t there against the Packers like during last season when Trubisky was top-five in the NFL in quarterback rushing yards.
Trubisky has plenty of time to prove himself this season, but there are a lot of Chicago sports fans that will blame him for this loss. He really needs to step up and make plays this season, or the dreaded “Draft bust” label could appear.
