5. Biggest difference-maker on offense: QB Mitchell Trubisky

Each week, we’ll highlight a player on the Bears offense that will need to step up and have a big game in order for the Bears to win. This week, it’s third-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. All offseason, Trubisky has looked good in training camp. Additionally, as he heads into a make-or-break year, Trubisky is expected to become a true franchise quarterback for the Bears.

One of the big factors that has been talked about all offseason is the Bears offense taking a big jump forward in year two due to the chemistry that Trubisky developed with his playmakers such as Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, and Taylor Gabriel.

Now that Trubisky has had a year to play with each of the names listed above, he needs to understand that he’s going to be the catalyst behind the Bears offense. While the Bears offense appears to be a complex system to most people, the Bears have simplified the offense down to the point where Trubisky can be effective from anywhere on the field.

All Trubisky needs to do is get the ball to his playmakers and let them do the rest of the work. For example, if a play is designed in such a way where either Miller or Gabriel is required to run a slant route, all Trubisky needs to do throw the ball to either one of them and let them pick up additional yards.

If Trubisky can play with consistency on Thursday night, there’s no reason to think that he can’t help the Bears pick up their first victory of the season. However, if he comes out looking lost and confused, it will be the Bears defense that will need to carry this team to a victory.
