Chicago Bears: Keys to victory against Packers

2. Get the running game going early
Of all the positions on offense that underwent significant changes this offseason, the Bears opted to overhaul the running back room with Tarik Cohen being the only face in the room that was with the team in 2018. The rest of the players in the room (David Montgomery, Mike Davis, and Kerrith Whyte Jr.) were acquired via the NFL Draft or free agency.
In the backfield, the Bears feature a three-headed monster in Davis, Montgomery, and Cohen. Everyone is focused on Montgomery however, the impact that Davis and Cohen could have will be noticeable as well.
Between Davis, Montgomery, and Cohen, each of the three bring something unique to the table that will allow for the Bears to consistently establish the running game on Thursday night. Montgomery can do a bit of everything, while Davis can be a good power runner and effective receiver for a guy his size. Cohen, on the other hand, can be lined up in multiple spots on the field and make an impact.
The Bears may not be a run-first offense, however, being able to establish the running game early will let the Bears get a feel for what the Packers want to do on defense. Last year, in two games against the Bears, the Packers defense allowed a total of 239 rushing yards.
It’s clear that with the improved backfield the Bears have now, establishing the running game will be a key part of this team offense each week. In Matt Nagy’s offense, when running backs fit the system, the entire offense plays better as a unit
