Chicago Bears: Bold predictions for the offense in 2019
By Ryan Heckman
4. Mitchell Trubisky will throw for 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns
To some, it might sound crazy. Actually, I can guarantee you it sounds crazy to all of the critics out there. How on earth could Mitchell Trubisky throw for 4,000 yards in a season? 30 touchdowns? That’s insane.
Quite frankly, it wouldn’t be that shocking.
Last year, Trubisky threw for 3,223 yards and 24 touchdowns. But, let’s not forget, he didn’t play the entire season. Take a look at what Chase Daniel did in the regular season last year, also: 515 yards, three touchdowns and two picks.
Let’s just say Trubisky handled every regular season snap last year. That would have put him at 3,738 yards and 27 touchdowns.
So, to hit my bold prediction, he’d have to increase his season’s total by just 262 yards and three touchdowns. If you want to call that bold, crazy and impossible — fine. Go ahead. But, the numbers prove that it’s not too far off from being a reality in 2019.
Trubisky is in the second year of Nagy’s offense. He’s already noted he does a lot less thinking in terms of digesting plays as they’re called. Trubisky has admitted to knowing the offense much better this year; “like the back of my hand,” he’s said, in fact.
Give me 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns any day. I’ll take it. All that’s left to do is sit back and watch it happen.
