Chicago Bears: Bold predictions for the offense in 2019
By Ryan Heckman
We know the Chicago Bears defense is going to be ferocious in 2019. But, just how good can the offense be?
Forget the offseason narratives. Forget the national media and every single time you’ve heard the term “regression.” Forget the so-called “grades” and the arguments that come with. Forget it all.
These Chicago Bears are going to be a legitimate threat to the entire NFL, and the main reason, first and foremost, is due to the ferocious defense. I don’t care how many “experts” have told you the defense is going to take a big step back — they’re wrong.
There is absolutely no way you can truly regress when Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Eddie Jackson, Roquan Smith, Kyle Fuller, Danny Trevathan and company are returning. This defense is completely stacked. I don’t care what title the football industry has given you — if you think this group will be noticeably worse this season, you’re out of your mind.
But, switching gears now, the Bears’ offense should actually be formidable as well. Last year, it was more of a learning curve for everyone involved. Head coach Matt Nagy was in his first season and everybody had to learn a brand new playbook.
Specifically, eyes were on quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to learn this new, complex offense. In Year 1, Trubisky surpassed most expectations. In Year 2, however, expectations are greater.
How will the offense look this season? Will they take a step forward?
In short: I believe they do.
For a bit of a longer explanation, let’s get straight to my bold predictions for the Bears offense in 2019, starting with the man everyone is talking about.
