The Chicago Bears are a team that should have Super Bowl aspirations in 2019, but they can learn from mistakes made by other teams around the league.

The big news around sports right now is the extremely surprising retirement of Andrew Luck at just 29 years old. He has been injured a lot over the course of his seven-year NFL career but he was nothing short of sensational when he was on the field. This news is something that the Chicago Bears can learn from as they develop Mitchell Trubisky.

Luck was a superstar that was just never able to get to that all-time great level but close. He likely would have if his career continued and he was healthy. He was highly touted coming out of Stanford University. That hype earned him being the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Colts.

The reason that the Bears can learn from this is they can avoid a situation like this. Trubisky and Luck aren’t all that different in their play styles, as they are both pocket passers who can move and scramble if need be. The thing is, Luck didn’t have any offensive line to speak of for most of his career. He was getting hit at the same rate as guys like Cam Newton and Russell Wilson. The difference between those guys and Luck is that Luck wasn’t getting hit because he put himself in position to be. Wilson and Newton like to run the ball.

The Bears need to make sure that doesn’t happen with Trubisky. They believe he is their franchise quarterback as the Colts once believed Luck was theirs. He might not have the supreme talent that Luck has/had, but he is good enough to play with this elite defense and take them to the promised land. The Bears need to make sure a good offensive line is their priority each and every season. The defense is elite and they have supplied him with efficient weapons on offense, so he needs to be protected.

Trubisky is still cheap as he is on his rookie deal still, so protecting him at all costs is a little easier right now because they can afford to pay guys. The draft is going to be very important for this situation once Mitch earns an extension beyond his rookie deal. The NFL is a dangerous league and what happened to Luck is not ideal because it is a better league when he is in it. If there can be any positive taken away from it, it is teams can learn from the Colts mistakes.
