When it comes to the cornerback position for the Bears, there are four names that have earned a spot on the Bears 53-man roster spot: Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Buster Skrine, and Duke Shelley. However, the Bears will likely end up carrying five cornerbacks on the roster. Currently, there are two players that could be battling for the fifth cornerback on the Bears 53-man roster: John Franklin III and Clifton Duck Jr.

In the game against the New York Giants, Franklin had one pass breakup. So far in preseason, he’s been up and down but does still have the potential to develop into a cornerback who’s going be a slot corner in the future.

Clifton Duck Jr. is a player that could potentially unseat John Franklin. Duck had a 62-yard interception against the New York Giants along with one pass breakup. If the final roster cuts were to be after the game against the Colts, then Franklin would likely end up being on the Bears practice squad.

If Franklin sees extended playing time in the second half of the game on Saturday night, then it’s likely that he’s earned the trust of the coaching staff and they see him as a guy who can be a crucial part of the Bears future. However, if he’s only in the game for one quarter, then it’s likely the Bears will decide to move on from Franklin at the end of the preseason.
