Chicago Bears: 5 players who must stand out against Indianapolis Colts
By Usayd Koshul
4. Bradley Sowell
As Bradley Sowell continues to transition to tight end this offseason, to truly become the tight end the Bears envision he can be, Sowell need to be more consistent as a player. While most say that he’s just going to be a blocking tight end, the Bears know that he can be a factor in the passing game as well.
Although he’s penciled in behind Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen on the Bears depth chart, Sowell still is learning the tight end position. Through two preseason games, he’s had some passes thrown his way but has failed to catch any of them.
Sowell needs to step up in a big way. He’s never going to be a top tight end for any offense, but he can be a guy who’s a situational tight end for a team. Besides just Sowell, the Bears have plenty of situational tight ends like Ben Braunecker, Ian Bunting, and Dax Raymond.
If Sowell can step up against the Colts, he’ll be in a situation where the Bears will be confident in giving him some extended playing time. However, if he doesn’t then the team will need to reevaluate where they think he’s at in terms of being a tight end.
