1. Ryan Nall

Let’s start with one name that was a preseason star for the Bears last year but failed to show enough to make the Bears 53-man roster. Nall did, however, earn a spot on the Bears practice squad. Now that it’s a new season, Nall appears to be ready to make his case for being the on Bears roster in 2019.

However, things are a bit complicated for Nall. The Bears overhauled their running back room this offseason bringing in three new faces: David Montgomery, Kerrith Whyte, and Mike Davis. Add third-year pro Tarik Cohen in the mix and it’s clear that Nall is the odd man out. To make things more complicated, the Bears just signed running back Josh Caldwell which proves that Nall is essentially on the roster bubble at this point.

However, Whyte and Caldwell aren’t guaranteed roster spots either. And between Nall, Whyte, and Caldwell, only of them will make the practice squad. If Whyte makes the Bears roster, it will be due to his speed meaning he’ll mostly be a factor in the return game. Nall, however, has proven that he uses his size and be a big, powerful, between the tackles runner.

The bottomline for Nall is this: Saturday night is essentially his final chance to prove that he belongs on the Bears roster. For now, it’s all about being able to buy time and show that he can be on the Bears roster.
