6. Cole Hedlund

Currently, with the Indianapolis Colts, Cole Hedlund is in the shadow of Adam Vinatieri but has quietly had a solid preseason. If the Bears are unable to land someone like Joey Slye, then Hedlund would be an ideal second option for the Bears as he’d solve their kicking woes for at least the next decade.

In preseason so far, Hedlund has hit 80 percent of his field goals. However, what’s most impressive about those numbers is the fact that he’s hit all three field goals he’s taken in the range of 40 to 49 yards. That’s impressive for someone who will likely be on a different team ina few weeks kicking in an entirely new stadium.

Unfortunately, Hedlund has yet to hit a field goal from 50 or more yards but has attempted one so far in the preseason. Over the next two weeks, with the Colts resting their starters, Hedlund will get another chance to showcase what he can do. Essentially, the Colts reason for doing this is to drive up the price of Hedlund should any team inquire about a trade.

The only downsides of a guy like Hedlund is inexperience and the fact that he’s kicked in a dome with the Colts. However, the good news is that the Bears will also get a front-row seat and get to see Hedlund in their third preseason game. This will allow for the Bears to get a firsthand look as to whether or not a guy like Hedlund would be a good fit for the team.
