Chicago Bears: 6 kickers to keep an eye on in preseason
By Usayd Koshul
4. Austin Seibert
An Illinois native and 2019 fifth-round pick, Austin Seibert was one of the first kickers selected in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his final season at Oklahoma University, Seibert 89.5 percent of his field goals and 98.9 percent of his extra points. Essentially, he was labeled by many to be the best kicker in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Now with the Cleveland Browns, Seibert’s success in college hasn’t exactly translated over to the NFL. So far, through two preseason games, Seibert has attempted just one field goal and has yet to successfully hit any of his attempts.
Sometimes in the NFL, a mere change in scenery is what could help a player get his career back on track. In Cleveland, Seibert has had to battle second-year man Greg Joseph for the starting job. While both kickers are in their early 20’s, the only way that the Browns decide to roll with Seibert is if he shows major signs of turning it around over the next two weeks.
For right now, the Seibert seems like he’d be a name to keep an eye on considering he does have some upside and is worth taking a chance on. At just 22 years old Seibert appears to be one of the younger but emerging kickers in the NFL.
