Did the offense play?

The Giants marched down the field and scored a touchdown to go up early The Bears’ offensive backups answered the call though by allowing Ryan Nall the opportunity to see the majority of carries. Nall looked good with what he was asked to do. He is pushing to make the team as a possible fullback since the three starting running backs are set in stone, while Kerrith Whyte was drafted this offseason.

Overall though, the offense struggled to sustain drives. Penalties by offensive lineman and Bradley Sowell did not help. Sowell let up a bad sack in the first quarter too. The consistent stalling of the offense kept points off the board. The quarterbacks did not help matters much either. Chase Daniel even gave up two points as he took his eyes off a shotgun snap that he had to dive on in the opposing endzone.

Beyond the botched snap though, Daniel and Tyler Bray struggled mightily to sustain drives. One issue I saw consistently with both quarterbacks was their inaccuracy on passes over eight yards. Only Javon Wims stood out to me on the deeper passes. He actually looked good again despite the backup quarterbacks. If he was not a lock coming into this game, he should be now.

Nagy and the team clearly wanted to get Riley Ridley involved in this game too. They forced some passes his way, but only the short to moderate passes were caught. Ridley looked decent to me though. He ran good routes and had great hands, but Daniel just could not get him the football consistently. Daniel could not get many players the football consistently, unfortunately.

As I mentioned previously, Ryan Nall stood out to me too. If I were to award achievements to any offensive skill position players I’d have to give them to Wims, Ridley, Nall and Kerrith Whyte. Whyte was less impressive on offense though as he was on special teams. Without fully breaking down the offensive line, both Alex Bars and Jordan McCray looked solid to me as potential backup guards.

From a negative perspective, Cornelius Lucas had a very rough night. I already mentioned both quarterbacks. Daniel only looked good in the last drive of the half. He saved his stats to some degree. Taquan Mizzell had such a bad game, he should not even be allowed on the team plane back to Chicago.
