The Chicago Bears starters never saw the field in the loss to the Giants on Friday night. Despite the loss, many important factors went into this game for the coaches.

The Chicago Bears looked like they were playing all of their backups in the second preseason game against a decent amount of the Giants starters on Friday. They looked like this because, well, that’s exactly what happened to start the game.

Matt Nagy has made it clear his main goal of the preseason is to come away healthy. The starters were held out along with important players like Mike Davis and David Montgomery. Nagy has made it clear he is not concerned about the players going into week one against the Packers without many snaps in the preseason.

In the first preseason game against the Panthers, Mitchell Trubisky came in and handed the ball off three straight times before seeing the bench. In this game, Trubisky and company watched the game from the sidelines.

In fact, 26 players were inactive for the game. Kyle Long did not travel with the team, but would not have played in this game anyway.

As many are concerned about Nagy’s approach to the preseason, one thing he did this week to offset that the starters are not seeing live reps in these games was create a night practice that emulates a real game. The practice simulated a real game with sounds, announcements and more. The players even ran out on the field as if it was a real game.

Players heard the Bear raid siren when the defense took the field and the Bear Down Chicago Bears themed anthem after scoring plays. This allowed the team, especially the starters, to get a feel for the game without the fear of any major injuries. Then the team scripted certain situations like fumbles, interceptions and more. Essentially, do not be surprised if the main guys do not see any live-action before September 5, 2019.

Not that scores matter much in preseason games, but the Giants topped the Chicago Bears 32-13. How did the offense, defense and special teams make out? Let us take a look.
