Chicago Blackhawks: Two guys headed to NHLPA Rookie Showcase
Two Chicago Blackhawks prospects have been invited to participate in the 2019 NHL Players Association Rookie Showcase that takes place later this month.
The Chicago Blackhawks and the National Hockey League announced which rookies would be participating in the 2019 NHL Players Association Rookie Showcase. The event is going to take place in Arlington, Virginia on August 25th. It is where the 28 best prospects in the world are going to be all in one place and it is a tremendous honor to be invited to one of these.
The two players that the Chicago Blackhawks have going are the last two first-round picks Adam Boqvist and Kirby Dach. This is an event where Upper Deck will collect photos and videos of the prospects and get that together for memorabilia. It is the first chance major media outlets will be able to collect things on these guys and make things like videos and trading cards.
Boqvist is a defenseman and the 8th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. He is going to be looking to make the team out of camp this year despite there not being that much room on the blue line for the Hawks. It may be a long shot as we stand right now, but there is a chance he makes it a difficult decision for the coaching staff and management. Adam’s brother, Jesper Boqvist, is going to be at the showcase as well as a member of the New Jersey Devils.
Similar things can be said about 2019 3rd overall pick, Kirby Dach. He was taken with that third pick that the Blackhawks received as part of a lucky draw in the Draft Lottery. He is even more of a long shot to make the team because of the fact that he was just drafted and the Blackhawks have 5 or 6 guys that can play center at the NHL level.
It might be good for both of their development to go back to junior for another year and be ready to take the jump in 2020-21. It also would be a great sign if one or both of them dominated the preseason and made the team because that would mean the management team believes they are ready. Either way, it is nice to see the team have two players going to the event and represent the Blackhawks. They have build up a pretty good pool of prospects over the last few years and it continues to get better as the years go on.
