Chicago Bears: Matchups to watch against the Giants
By Usayd Koshul
1. RB Wayne Gallman vs. MLB Josh Woods
One of the biggest names to watch that could be a dark horse candidate to make the Bears roster is Josh Woods. Against the Carolina Panthers in week one, Woods had six tackles and a forced fumble. However, as of right now, he is the fifth middle linebacker on the Bears depth chart.
Ahead of Woods on the depth chart are four players: Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Nick Kwiatkoski, and Joel Iyiegbuniwe. However, this Giants game is a prime opportunity for Woods to prove that he’s worth keeping around.
Woods will likely end up facing Giants running back Wayne Gallman, a 2017 fourth-round pick. A third-year pro like Gallman would be an interesting test for Woods due to the fact that Gallman has the ability to be a threat in the run game as well as the passing game.
However, last week against the New York Jets, Gallman didn’t exactly impress. He would finish the game with just five carries for 13 yards, averaging just under three yards per carry. This means that for him, he’ll be looking to bounce back and prove that he still belongs on an NFL roster.
If Woods has success slowing done Gallman, then the Bears will be in a situation where they can afford to move on from a guy like Kwiatkoski because Woods will have proven that he brings more to the table than the players he’s competing against.
