Trade Package No. 5

Why not include the Bears as a position-needy team?

Up until Sunday, the Bears were rumored to be one of the front-runners to land former Baltimore Ravens kicker Kaare Vedvik. Instead, they watched their division rival, the Minnesota Vikings, strike a deal for Vedvik. The Vikings sent away a fifth-round pick in exchange for Vedvik, which was a pretty high price to pay.

Now, the Bears could turn to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sure, they still have Eddy Pineiro and Elliott Fry whom have both had their solid moments this summer. But, if they want to truly solidify the position, a trade may be in their best interest.

The Bears tried bringing in Cairo Santos once upon a time, but ultimately injuries ended up plaguing him and his stay in Chicago was short-lived. Now, the Bucs have a healthy Santos to go along with rookie Matt Gay, whom the team drafted in the fifth round this year.

With Santos healthy and Gay clearly an investment by Tampa Bay, the former should end up being cut. However, with other teams out there in need of a kicker (ex: the New York Jets), the Bears may still have some competition on the trade market.

If Santos is indeed healthy and back to form, it wouldn’t hurt throwing out a seventh-round pick to see if the Bucs would bite. In this event, the pick would be on a condition that Santos plays in at least 12 regular season games. If he did not, the Bears would keep the pick.
