Chicago Blackhawks: Patrick Kane is the second best winger
The Chicago Blackhawks have had some really good wingers over the years, but number 88 has been on another level from them all.
The Chicago Blackhawks are used to having a plethora of great wingers to make forward lines out of. None have ever been better than Patrick Kane. He has been one of the mainstays for a long time and has had a very decorated career because of it. He has won everything there is to win and he has been recognized as such a player. He was ranked second on the 2019 NHL Network Top-20 Wings list.
This list is a list that used last season as a point of reference to where these guys are right now. Patrick Kane had an incredible season for Chicago with 44 goals and 66 assists for 110 points. It was a career-high in points, even higher than the year that he won the Hart Trophy as the MVP of the league. Kane had an incredible year personally, despite the Hawks not qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The only player named ahead of him was Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kucherov won the Hart Trophy for the 2018-19 season and he was the leagues leading scorer. His 41 goals and 87 assists for 128 points accounted for one of the best offensive seasons in recent history. He was very deserving of the number one spot and it took an effort like that to beat out Kane this year.
Kane came in ahead of some of the best players in the league, including Alex Ovechkin who is widely considered the greatest goal scorer who ever lived. Ovechkin came in at number three right behind Kane despite leading the league in goals with 51. It is proof of how good of a season Kane had in 2018-19. Having another season like that is pivotal to the Blackhawks having a good year. There is no reason to think he won’t and that is why he comes in at number two on this list.
This lists are largely just for fun and to spark conversation, but it is cool to see a guy like Patrick Kane be recognized for his efforts. There are some things on the list that are debatable, but the top three are pretty spot on and Kane was pretty much ranked perfectly. He had a magnificent year and hopefully, he can keep that going.
