Chicago Bears: Stock up, stock down in loss to Panthers
Hope they packed a parachute
As I stated, one preseason game will not dictate the outcome of who makes the roster and who does not. The thing is if you continue to build on your performances, you have a better chance of making the 53-man roster. Unfortunately, that holds true from a negative standpoint too.
These guys need to start putting together better preseason games or they may find themselves moving back on the depth chart or even off the depth chart completely.
Eddy Pineiro – K
I would be hard-pressed to not include Eddy Pineiro on this list. When given the first opportunity to make a field goal for the Chicago Bears, he missed from 48-yards out. The fans let him know their displeasure. Pineiro might have a stronger leg, but that will not matter as much if you cannot make kicks from inside the 50.
He was able to make his kick from 23-yards out, but Elliott Fry takes the edge as he made his PAT and his field goal from that infamous 43-yards out that haunts this team still from the 2018 playoff loss to the Eagles.
Nick Kwiatkoski – ILB
Remember when I talked about seeing guys on plays when I was not zoned in on them? That is what happened while watching Nick Kwiatkoski. Kwiatkoski seemed slow to me. He struggled often in coverage and was letting up big chunks of plays to the tight end. He had a sack, but it just was not enough for me to not include him here.
With the play of Josh Woods and Kevin Pierre-Louis, Kwiatkoski better watch out or he might fall back to third-string.
Kylie Fitts – OLB
Kylie Fitts also stood out to me in the passing game. As an outside linebacker, he will not be tasked as often to keep up with the tight end, but it is still required at times. He also just looked slow too often to me. Fitts did not make any big plays either. He’s already third-string, but if he does not improve he could find himself on the roster bubble sooner rather than later.
Notables
- Mike Davis, RB – Showing by David Montgomery will push Davis back.
- Adam Shaheen, TE – Did not play but Ian Bunting’s performance not good for Shaheen.
- Dax Raymond, TE – His stock was already falling, but he’s on his way out the door now.
- Jonathan Bullard, DE – He’s not necessarily a faller, but needs to show something more soon.
Remember, there are still three games left for these players to keep climbing or falling. This is not the end. Drastic changes or horrific injuries could completely change things before September rolls around.
