Chicago Bears: Players to watch against Carolina Panthers
By Usayd Koshul
5. Conclusion
Overall, Duke Shelley, Ryan Nall, Riley Ridley, and Bradley Sowell are the four main names to watch on Thursday night. With a strong showing each of these names could rise up the Bears depth chart. However, this preseason is the most critical for Bradley Sowell as he continues to adjust into his new position.
With multiple extension for core players coming up over the next two years, the development of each of these guys is important. Being able to draft well and develop talent is an effective way for a team to continue producing a winning product.
Between the two rookies Shelley and Ridley, Shelley seems like he’ll have a bigger impact this preseason. The cornerbacks’ room isn’t as crowded as the wide receivers room which means that Shelley should see some more opportunities.
Of these four players listed, Ridley clearly has the highest ceiling. He should see some opportunities in the regular season and could be a big part of the Bears offense by next year. For now, he’ll continue to work with wide receiver coach Mike Furrey and continue to develop his talent.
The Bears know how good each of these four names can be. In many ways, these guys are just scratching the surface of how good they really can be. This is why they are all worth keeping a sharp eye on against the Panthers. Will there be frustrating moments for them on Thursday night? Yes. But those are common amongst all NFL players. The mistakes they make on Thursday will go a long way towards their development.
