Chicago Bears: Players to watch against Carolina Panthers

2. RB Ryan Nall
An undrafted free agent from Oregon State in 2018, Ryan Nall did enough in training camp last season to earn a spot on the Bears practice squad. Now, in 2019, his goal is to make the Bears 53-man roster. However, he faces an uphill climb due to the presence of David Montgomery and Mike Davis.
So far in Bourbonnais, Nall has looked solid. He’s taken a step in the right direction when it comes to his pass protection. He’s also been solid on handoffs when he’s gotten the opportunity to make plays. Hypothetically speaking, if the Bears were to begin selecting the 53-man roster today, Nall would be tough to decide on in terms of keeping or cutting him.
Besides just having the ability to run between the tackles, while in college, Nall also had an impact in the passing game. Despite spending his first season at Oregon State as a tight end, his final two years were spent being a running back where he averaged nearly nine yards per reception.
As of right now, it’s unknown how many running backs the Bears will be willing to carry on the roster. With Davis, Montgomery, and Tarik Cohen all guaranteed roster spots, it’s likely the team carries only three running backs. However, if the Bears do decide to carry four running backs, Nall should draw some strong consideration considering he could be a guy who in a year is ready to be a regular starter in the Bears backfield.
