Communication Breakdown?

Look, by all accounts, the Bears defense has looked amazing in camp so far. In fact, they’ve been so good, Trubisky recently said that when going up against them in practice, it almost feels like they’re cheating — that’s how good they are.

So for all of the talk about the defense regressing, it appears this unit is having none of it. In reality, at the end of the day, talent reigns supreme, and the Bears have talent in droves.

However, that’s not to say there isn’t going to be a transitional period. It will still take time to adjust to Chuck Pagano as a play-caller, his style, and what new terminology he’s brought to the team. While he had expressed a preference to keep the language as similar as possible, there will invariably be some differences.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the defense adjusts. Is there any confusion in the defensive huddle? Do players miss their assignments? Are they late on rotations? If there are, that’s ok — that’s what the preseason is for, to work out these types of kinks.

If there aren’t those types of struggles, then that just means the defense is much further along in the transition then we could have imagined. It also means expectations will be ratcheted up even further as the transition could be seamless.
