4. 2020 NFL Draft

The 2020 NFL Draft will be interesting for the Bears. With no first-round picks due to the Khalil Mack trade, the Bears will have two second-round picks. Then apart from that, it’s fair to expect the Bears to have about four other picks between rounds five to seven. As of right now, the Bears do not have a third or fourth-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, this could change quickly due to the NFL’s system of compensatory picks.

Compensatory picks are merely picks that the NFL awards teams who may lose players to free agency. For the Bears, this means that it’s fair to expect the team to get at least two picks because Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan signed with the Packers and Broncos this offseason.

The Bears also have some conditional picks, which as of right now are projected to be 2020 sixth-round picks, however, could turn into fifth-round picks depending on how the players that the Bears traded. The biggest name to watch in this case will be running back Jordan Howard, who was traded to the Eagles in March.

Most would say that the Bears not having enough draft capital for a second straight year is a problem, however, the Bears have proven that they can find quality starters in the second round. Additionally, the Bears could also be awarded compensatory picks in the third, fourth, or fifth-rounds of the NFL Draft meaning that the team could head into the 2020 draft with eight or nine picks total.
