Chicago Bears: Predictions for David Montgomery in 2019
By Usayd Koshul
4. Conclusion
Throughout the Ryan Pace era, the Bears have had success finding hidden gems on day two and three of the NFL Draft. Usually, it’s these players that have gone on to have major roles on the Bears. Additionally, examples of players drafted from the third-round onwards include Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen, Eddie Jackson, and Bilal Nichols.
It’s clear that Montgomery will be the next guy to continue such a trend. He’s essentially, a guy who is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. It’s clear that as of right now, Montgomery is exactly where he needs to be in terms of development.
Even if Montgomery accomplishes one of the predictions in this article but shows improvement in other areas, then his rookie season should be considered a success despite the stats that he puts up.
The last time the Bears had a rookie running back that generated this much excitement as a rookie, it was Matt Forte in 2008. Much like Forte, Montgomery can impact the game in multiple plays and as the 2019 season progresses, he should see a big increase in his role on offense.
As of right now, it is, however, time to sit back and observe Montgomery throughout the preseason as it will give us a glimpse of what he’s learned since entering the NFL so far. He’s looked good in camp, but can he put it all together when an actual NFL game is going on? This is something that remains to be seen.
