Chicago Blackhawks: Celebrating 2010 championship team
It is going on 10 years since the 2009-10 Chicago Blackhawks started their journey to winning the Stanley Cup, and the team is celebrating it this season.
The 2010 Chicago Blackhawks were one of the greatest teams in franchise history. They won the Stanley Cup, ending a 49-year drought for the franchise. Patrick Kane was the only player in the building that knew he had scored the Cup-winning goal as he celebrating skating down the ice. It is one of the greatest and most peculiar moments in NHL history.
The 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks are going to celebrate that amazing year all throughout the season. They currently have four players who remain from that team in Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, and Brent Seabrook. It was one a very exciting time and put hockey back on the map in Chicago.
They went on to win the Stanley Cup again in both 2013 and 2015, creating a modern-day dynasty. Those two were very fun and cemented a lot of amazing legacies, but the 2010 run to the Cup will always be the most special because it ended a 49-year drought and was the first for the players who had won it.
There was the core four that are still on the team to this day, but you can say that Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, and Niklas Hjalmarsson were all also key core pieces to the team success. They are the group of six players that won all three Cups with the Blackhawks. Bryan Bickell was a part of the 2010 team, but he didn’t qualify to have his name put on the trophy. All of these players and others are going to be honored throughout the season this year as they celebrate this incredible year.
The Blackhawks have become one of the better organizations in the NHL at recognizing great moments and players from the past, and this is no different. It is one, if not the greatest moments in team history and it deserves to be recognized. It is awesome for players like Kane and Toews as well, as they get to be honored for the past while working on the present and future as well. They seem to be very excited about the anniversary celebration and it is so fun to see.
